Student posters provide the opportunity for students to present their work as an interactive poster at the conference and to have a summary of their work (two pages) appear in the CHI 98 Summary. The submission should focus on aspects of the work which have produced new or exciting ideas or findings. Proposals for student posters will be judged on the originality, interest and potential importance of the work to the HCI community.

Review Process

Submissions will be reviewed by a panel of experts in the field, using criteria including originality and innovation, importance, clarity and the proposed layout of the poster.

Format

Prepare a two-page camera-ready paper, suitable for publication in the CHI 98 Summary. It must be in the Conference Publications Format, containing title, authors, contact information, keywords, abstract, body and references.

Also include a one-page bird's-eye view which shows the overall poster layout.

Electronic Version

(These instructions have changed from what appears in the original Call For Participation. Please follow these new directions.)

An electronic version of the two-page paper must be provided on a disk (PC or Mac) as part of the submission. The disk should have a label indicating the disk's type (PC or Mac), the primary author and the title of the submission.

Save your submission on the disk in RTF format. Use the primary author's name as the file name; for example, SMITHJ.RTF. RTF format can be created from most word processors, but if you have any difficulties please contact: chi98-studentp@acm.org.

To assist in the review process, please at the same time email a copy of the file to: chi98-studentp@acm.org. The file should be an attachment to an email message with the subject "CHI 98 Poster: title" (where "title" is the title of your paper).

Upon Acceptance

Authors will be notified of acceptance or rejection by mid-February 1998. Please note that due to publication schedules, revisions to submitted camera-ready papers will not be possible. We therefore encourage authors to take the time to perfect their papers, so that they are clearly expressed, carefully proofread and in the required layout.

At the conference

Student posters will each have a display of approximately 2.5m by 1.2m with a table for other materials. Posters will be on display for one day, and author(s) will be expected to be present at scheduled times for informal discussions at their posters.

  • Your submission must be in English.
  • Electronic and fax submissions are not accepted.
  • Submissions which arrive after the deadline will not be considered.
  • Your submission should contain no proprietary or confidential material and should cite no proprietary or confidential publications.
