About ACM and SIGCHI, the conference sponsors

At CHI 98, we will offer a multifaceted forum for the advancement, transfer and sharing of human-computer interaction (HCI) knowledge that professionals can use to improve the quality of life. This qualitative difference may be achieved through raising the quality of education, products and services; improving the work environment; increasing productivity and thus raising the standard of living; increasing user and customer satisfaction; lowering risk and cost; and inventing the future through new ways of learning, working and enjoying life. The CHI 98 team will achieve these goals by building a synergy within the HCI community and through listening, partnership, commitment and an openness to new ideas and possibilities. This worldwide team is a group of people committed to enhancing the usability of human-computer interfaces in the real world.

We invite you to join a multidisciplinary group of people at CHI 98 exploring advances in human-computer interaction, tackling current real-world challenges and creating the foundation for a promising future. Let's clarify where HCI has been evolving to, understand more about the context of HCI work and solutions, and provide a forum for theory and processes that may be applied to solve real-world challenges.

We encourage a special focus on the challenges in the education, entertainment and health care application domains, and submissions in all application domains are welcomed. The education, entertainment and health care application domains were selected for special focus; they are expected to generate significant general interest for the HCI community since these areas touch all of our lives. We also want to provide an opportunity for networking to occur, enhancing the growth of the core multidisciplinary group of professionals communicating and collaborating with each other on new projects and application solutions in these areas.

CHI 98 invites researchers, practitioners and educators, students and professionals, from academia, industry, health care and the arts, from all over the world, to participate in the variety of events at CHI. Please join us!
