Other Activity: UCLA City Simulator Tour

The UCLA Department of Architecture and Urban Design will be hosting a tour of their City (Urban) Simulator Project as part of CHI 98 on Friday, the day after the conference. The tour includes the School's Urban Simulation Laboratory. The Lab is a multi-million dollar distributed computing facility which comprises well over 30 distributed workstations and several high performance supermini and mainframe computers.

The UCLA City (Urban) Simulator Project has created a real-time simulation/virtual reality system which enables the interactive exploration of large visual databases using a video-game like interface. This system is currently being used to create/explore a number of extremely diverse virtual worlds. These worlds range from virtual models of Los Angeles and parts of Las Vegas to ancient Roman Fora to 3D exploration of scientific and medical data.
