Our Kids Making the Impossible Possible with Technology

CHIkids returns for its third year to mix the fun of summer camp, technology and CHI. It is an exciting experience for children (3-13 years of age) where they can create multimedia stories, try the latest educational multimedia titles, test emerging software technologies or be CHI conference reporters.

To make all of this happen, CHIkids needs your participation.

Participation

Individuals, educational organizations and companies that would like to focus on projects that involve kids in innovative educational technological experiences are encouraged to submit short proposals in these areas.

Technology workouts

This area offers the opportunity for new technologies and user interfaces to be tested with children of all ages. For the five days of the CHI conference, HCI researchers are invited to bring their work to be used with children. Submit a two-page summary of your work which includes authors' contact information, technology summary, the hardware/software you would bring and the hardware/software you might require.

CD-ROM Field Trips

This area offers children the opportunity to explore various CD-ROM products. Multimedia CD-ROM authors are asked to submit their products to be used by children throughout the five days of CHI 98. Submit a one-page summary describing the product(s) you would like to lend to this area. Multiple CD-ROM submissions will be welcomed. Authors do not have to be present at CHIkids during the conference to submit a CD-ROM product, however daily volunteers to work with children will be most welcome!

CHIkids Leaders

The success of the CHIkids Program is due in great part to the expertise, experience and energy of our CHIkids Leaders. For five hours each day of the conference, a dedicated team of CHI volunteers works with our CHIkids in creating multimedia software (Multimedia Storytelling), testing experimental software (Technology Workouts), exploring commercial multimedia software (CD-ROM Field Trips) and creating the conference newsletter and Website (CHIkids Newsroom). If you are interested in volunteering to be a CHIkids Leader in any of these creative areas, please submit a one-page summary which includes your contact information, your experience (if any) working with children, what CHIkids area you are interested in and what you hope to accomplish as a CHIkids Leader. Only a limited number of CHIkids Leaders can be selected, therefore your timely submission is critical.

CHIkids Daily Volunteers

If you are interested in experiencing our CHIkids program, but cannot commit the time required to be a CHIkids Leader, then you may be interested in being a CHIkids Daily Volunteer. As a Daily Volunteer you can select the days and/or times you are available to work at CHIkids. If you are interested in volunteering, please submit a one-page summary which includes your contact information, your experience (if any) working with children and what CHIkids area(s) you would like to work in.
